Every fall it happens in Treasure Valley homes. The nights cool off, and suddenly there’s a big brown spider crossing the living room carpet, webs in every corner of the garage, and one sitting in the bathtub at 6 a.m. Around then a lot of people start searching for what a spider exterminator costs.
We don’t post a price list, because spider service depends on your home, the season and the kind of service you choose. What we can do is explain what drives the cost, what “spraying for spiders” actually means, and how to decide whether it’s worth it for your house.
What Affects the Cost of a Spider Exterminator
Your home’s size and layout
A bigger home has more foundation, more windows and doors, and more eaves to cover. Basements, crawl spaces and big attached garages, which are standard in a lot of Eagle, Meridian and Star homes, add the dark, quiet spots spiders like most. (We’ve written more about spider control for Eagle garages and keeping spiders out of Boise attics.)
Where the spiders are showing up
Spiders around the outside of the house, on the eaves, around porch lights and in window wells, call for a different approach than spiders living in a cluttered basement or garage. Many homes need attention in both places.
The kind of spiders
Most spiders people find in Treasure Valley homes are harmless nuisances. Black widows are the one most people want handled carefully, and they like undisturbed spots such as woodpiles, utility boxes and garage corners. Knowing what you’ve got helps decide where the effort goes. Our spider identification page can help you tell them apart.
The time of year
Late summer and fall are peak spider season here. Males go wandering to find mates, and many spiders move toward the warmth of the house as nights cool off. Getting ahead of that, rather than reacting once they’re inside, usually makes the season easier.
What’s around the house
Landscape lighting, shrubs against the siding, woodpiles, stacked boxes in the garage and homes near the river or open fields all bring more insects, and spiders follow the insects.
One-time or ongoing service
This is the biggest factor over a full year. ProGuard offers quarterly service plans, twice-a-year (bi-annual) service and one-time service. A one-time service can make sense for a specific problem. For homes that see spiders every season, ongoing service is usually the simpler and more cost-effective route over time.
What Does “Spraying for Spiders” Really Mean?
When people search for the cost to spray for spiders, they usually picture one quick treatment. In reality, good spider control is less about a single spray and more about where and how consistently the treatment is applied. That means the places spiders and the insects they feed on come into the house, like the foundation, doors, windows and eaves, plus the spots inside where they settle.
Spider treatments also work best alongside a few simple habits: cut back on clutter in the garage and basement, keep shrubs trimmed off the siding, and switch to warmer or yellow outdoor bulbs that attract fewer insects.
Is Professional Spider Control Worth the Price?
For an occasional spider, a shoe and a paper towel work fine. Professional service is usually worth it when:
- You’re seeing spiders indoors regularly, not just once in a while
- You’re finding black widows around the garage, yard or window wells
- Webs keep coming back on the eaves and porch faster than you can knock them down
- Spiders are just one part of a bigger bug problem, such as earwigs or ants
That last point matters. Spiders follow food, so when a quarterly pest control service also cuts down on the insects around your home, there’s less for spiders to eat.
